Amanda is a full-time kilnformed glass designer, maker, and instructor. Originally from Calgary, Alberta she now creates her work and teaches workshops in her light-filled glass studio south of Burnsville, NC in the Cattail Creek Community. She has been working in kilnformed glass since 1994. Amanda’s body of work varies in size, subject matter, and techniques (lamps & lighting, sculptural landscapes, glass vessels, cast glass forms, woodblock printing, etc). In her work she strives to celebrate the natural beauty of the environment she has lived in or traveled to in Canada, USA, and around the world. Her love of the outdoors, and photography, inspires her to create unique interpretations in kilnformed glass. “By drawing inspiration from my surroundings, I use light, color, and form in my work to create a sense of place that is relatable to others.” Amanda was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She worked as a geophysical technologist in the oil industry for 30 years before moving to the USA. Amanda has been working with different mediums and techniques since her late teens and has been working in primarily with kilnformed glass since 1994 but solely focused on glass since 2007 when coming to the USA. She has studied and been mentored by a plethora of professional artists from around the world. Since 2008, her and her husband, Lance Taylor, have run glass production & teaching studios. Amanda teaches year-round in her studio and various other locations.
